This presentation emphasizes the importance of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in academia and research, especially within the HumanIC project funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme.
What is EDI? Equality ensures equal opportunities and fair treatment regardless of background, ability, or identity. Diversity recognizes and values the unique differences between individuals. Inclusion focuses on creating environments where everyone feels welcomed, supported, and respected.
Why is EDI Important? Leads to broader perspectives and more innovative solutions in research. Enhances critical thinking and intercultural competence. Promotes creativity, collaboration, and equity in decision-making and outcomes.
Legal and Policy Foundations in the EU:

- Gender Equality Strategy 2020–2025: Focuses on eliminating gender-based violence, promoting equal opportunities in the workplace, and integrating gender perspectives across EU policy.
- Directive 2000/78/EC: Sets the framework for equal treatment in employment and prohibits direct/indirect discrimination and harassment.
- Other Directives: Cover gender equality in self-employment, accessibility, and broader anti-discrimination frameworks.
